Data privacy is becoming an increasingly significant issue for Charities
POSTED: 23 March 2017
The government in the UK has defined requirements on Charities on the conditions under which data from private citizens may be kept and/or used. This is a ‘game-changer.’ Already, 11 Charities in the UK have been notified of impending fines for misuse of donor data or failure to comply with the new rules for data protection and use.
It may only be a matter of time before similar rules are applied in New Zealand. Charities are well advised to review data collection, retention and usage rules now to avoid becoming impacted. It’s organisational reputations that are on the line.
